Opioids are the only medicines the science community has came up with so far to deal with chronic pain. Even today in 2024, it’s the only thing they have to offer. They’re coming up with new ways to deliver it into patients, but after all these years it’s still the only thing they’ve got. Doesn’t matter who you are, your regimen will increase as well as your tolerance to opioids. They’ll go from Morphine, to Percocet to Dilaudid to Fentanyl to Subfentanil etc. I guess the only thing that’s gonna happen to chronic pain patients in the long run will be they’ll all be on high dose Fentanyl & beyond in order to maintain their quality of life. There’s just no possible way to be on the same dose for years & it still works, regardless of who you are. By this time it’ll be through narcotic pain pumps that only the doctors can adjust/refill & put patients on a specific regimen. The days of being prescribed actual tablets will soon be coming to an end. It’ll either be spinal cord stimulators or intrathecal pain pumps & that’s it.
